Children Love Chickens
Chickens live in flocks as they are social animals. Ranging free is natural as well. Pet chickens in a small enclosure may be bored and unhappy. Pet chickens can have new ground to scratch with a chicken ark type hen house.
Chicken arks are designed to be moved around, so the hens have access to new grazing, where they can scratch grubs and bugs, eat grass and weeds. So the chickens have room to move around, and you can separate children and chickens when you want to.
Handling the hens will soon become easy for your children, but make sure their friends get some instruction, some may be frightened of the birds. The chicken ark design will allow you to keep the chickens separate from children – but let the children observe the chickens at close quarters.
Children will learn to care for pet chickens as they develop an understanding of their day-to-day routine. They enjoy collecting the eggs from the nesting area of the chicken ark and can take on responsibilities such as feeding and helping with cleaning.
If handled gently, most chicken breeds are perfectly safe to handle. if you let the hens out of the chicken ark for a few hours each day, the children will have more access and the hens will get used to them.
If you start with chicks, children can get familiar with them as they grow, and can handle them if they are well supervised, from a relatively early age.
Children can relate well to the size of chicken arks which are good for a small flock of up to four chickens. Children will learn how to treat each bird, and notice the difference in their habits and personalities.
